Why It Matters

Oahu's first Autograph Collection hotel, converted from a 1967 property with a $60M renovation. Recognized on Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2024 and Travel + Leisure Top 10 Hawaii Hotels. The Hideout restaurant has become one of Honolulu's most popular dining destinations independent of the hotel.

The Laylow opened in March 2017 after a $60 million transformation of the circa-1967 Aqua Wave Waikiki, becoming Oahu's first Autograph Collection hotel. It leans hard into Waikiki's mid-century heritage — think signature monstera leaf wallpaper, custom salvaged furniture, a kitschy hula-doll-lined front desk, and a 1960s aesthetic that doesn't feel forced. And for all its throwback modernist good looks, it's perhaps somewhat surprising that it's no small-batch boutique, but a 251-room member of Marriott's Autograph Collection sitting one block from the beach on Kuhio Avenue.
