It's a converted 1851 granite jail and a National Historic Landmark. The bones of Charles Street Jail are everywhere — the catwalks, the rotunda, the cell-block remnants — but the experience is full Marriott Luxury Collection. The Liberty Hotel is a 298-room luxury hotel inside the rough-hewn granite walls of the 1851 Charles Street Jail — a National Historic Landmark at the foot of Beacon Hill. The conversion kept the imposing rotunda, the catwalks, even the cell-block vestiges, and poured $150 million into turning them into something worth being locked up in. It's the kind of place where the lobby bar is called Alibi and sits in the old drunk tank, where Thursday nights mean fashion shows in the Catwalk, and where Chef Lydia Shire runs one of Boston's best Italian restaurants in the same building. The sweet spot in the standard room lineup. Floors 8-16, with proper skyline views taking in Beacon Hill and the Charles River. Upgraded with Molton Brown bath products, minibar, in-room safe, VOIP phones, and four-fixture bathroom on top of the usual 55-inch TV and Frette-style linens. Available as King or Queen/Queen. This is the room to book if you're splurging on a standard room.

These are the most modestly priced rooms in the house — solid, modern, and well-appointed, but lower in the building and facing the street.
