The Merrion
Polished Georgian grandeur with real warmth underneath. This is not a cold trophy hotel. Rooms are large, properly furnished with period-style fabrics and Italian Carrara marble bathrooms. The Cellar Bar feels like a Dublin institution because it is one. And the art hanging in your room might be worth more than the room rate.
Ask specifically for a garden-view Superior King Room — it costs only a little more than the street-view Queen and makes a real difference
Why It Matters
Home to Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud, Ireland's first and only two-Michelin-star restaurant. Also holds Ireland's largest private art collection of 19th and 20th century works. A proud member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Very few hotels in Ireland deliver at this level across all categories simultaneously.
Four 18th-century Georgian townhouses, meticulously restored and connected to a purpose-built Garden Wing, make up this 142-room landmark sitting directly opposite the Irish Government Buildings. The Merrion holds Ireland's largest private collection of 19th and 20th century art — Jack B. Yeats, Louis le Brocquy, Mainie Jellett — displayed throughout corridors and common rooms, not locked away in a gallery. Add in Ireland's only two-Michelin-star restaurant, an 18-metre marble pool, and drawing rooms with actual turf fires, and you have one of the most complete luxury hotel experiences in Ireland.

A two-hour afternoon tea experience in the Georgian Drawing Rooms, with pastries directly inspired by the hotel's art collection. A genuine activity as much as a meal — staff can walk you through the artistic inspirations for each creation. €75/person or €95 with champagne.
Ireland's largest private collection of 19th and 20th century art is displayed throughout the hotel — corridors, dining rooms, stairwells, and common areas. Works by Jack B. Yeats, Paul Henry, Louis le Brocquy, Mainie Jellett, Roderic O'Conor, Sir John Lavery, and others. A video art tour is available on YouTube. The Merrion also maintains a rotating sculpture plinth outside the hotel.
Bicycles are available to hotel guests for exploring the city. Dublin is relatively flat and very bikeable, with the National Gallery, St. Stephen's Green, and Grafton Street all easily reached from the hotel.
