Ned
Art Deco grandeur meets speakeasy energy. Think brass and mahogany, marble mosaic bathrooms, jewel-toned upholstery, 92-foot domed ceilings, and a bandstand in the former banking hall. The vibe is 1920s glamour with a genuinely lively crowd — this is not a quiet retreat.
Standard room rates don't include access to the spa, indoor pool, gym, or rooftop — budget for a £250 day pass if you want the full wellness experience
Why It Matters
It's one of the most architecturally significant hotel conversions in London. The original bank vault is now a late-night club (The Vault) surrounded by 3,000 original safety deposit boxes. The sheer density of dining and entertainment under one roof is unmatched in the City.
The Ned occupies the former Midland Bank headquarters — a Grade I-listed building designed by Sir Edwin 'Ned' Lutyens in 1924 — right next to Bank tube station in the City of London. It's a 320,000 sq ft beast that packs in 250 bedrooms, ten restaurants, a spa, a gym, and a members' club spread across the rooftop and the original bank vault. The scale is almost absurd, but it works: the grand banking hall hums with activity while each dining room carves out its own atmosphere.
