Why It Matters
One of only a handful of Bill Bensley-designed urban hotels globally, and his most Jakarta-specific project to date. The design functions as a cultural institution as much as a hotel, with a collection of regional artifacts and bespoke artisan work that goes far beyond decorative wallpaper.
Bill Bensley designed this 153-room boutique hotel as a narrative about the ancient East, and the result is genuinely unlike anything else on Jl. Sudirman. Regional antiques, indigenous materials, and commissioned artisan work fill every corner. Bed headboards are handcrafted from traditional Batik fabrics, doors are hand-painted by local artspeople, and the whole place feels more like a cabinet of curiosities than a corporate tower. Opened in 2022, it sits right in the CBD — 150 metres from Bendungan Hilir MRT Station — making it equally suited for business travelers and those who want a design-forward base for exploring Jakarta.
