The Plaza
Grand old-money New York glamour. Soaring ceilings, mosaic floors, 24-karat gold fixtures, crystal chandeliers. Classic appointments that feel like stepping into a different era—but with very modern service and a few thoroughly contemporary touches like the 111SKIN SPA/CLINIC. Formal without being stuffy.
Book The Palm Court for afternoon tea at least 2–4 weeks in advance; it sells out quickly, especially on weekends. Dress code is enforced—no shorts or athletic wear.
Why It Matters
A genuine New York landmark with more than 115 years of history and a reputation that precedes it worldwide. The only NYC hotel where you can have afternoon tea under a stained-glass dome that dates to 1907, stay in the Eloise Suite designed by Betsey Johnson, or book a Royal Suite with a private elevator and a 12-person dining table. There is no pool—this place leans hard into historic grandeur instead.
The Plaza opened on October 1, 1907, and has never really stopped being one of the most recognizable buildings in New York. Designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh in French Renaissance château style, the 18-story landmark sits at the southeast corner of Central Park on Fifth Avenue. It's the kind of address that shows up in F. Scott Fitzgerald novels, Home Alone 2, and on the covers of lifestyle magazines. 282 guestrooms, 102 of which are suites, managed by Fairmont under the ownership of Qatari firm Katara Hospitality since 2018.
