Richard
Chic coastal — moody monochrome with pops of purple, bespoke furnishings, and a regal residential feel. Think upscale captain's house, not nautical gift shop.
No bar means you should stop at Vintage MV Wines & Spirits (walking distance) to stock up — the room has a corkscrew and glasses ready
Why It Matters
One of very few boutique hotels on Martha's Vineyard that deliberately avoids the sea-captain-and-lobster aesthetic. The 19th-century bones of the building are preserved while the interiors go fully contemporary. Formerly operated under Lark Hotels, now the flagship of The Edgartown Collection.
The Richard is a 16-room boutique hotel on Edgartown's Main Street, housed in a 19th-century ship captain's residence that was later the Point Way Inn. Now part of The Edgartown Collection, it trades the expected nautical clichés for a sleek black, white, and gray palette with sculptural furniture, graphic wall prints, and just enough gold-dipped detail to feel genuinely polished. Breakfast is included, there's a garden courtyard with a fire pit, and everything worth doing in Edgartown is a short walk away.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel strongly recommends cycling as the primary mode of transport. Wheel Happy, a local bike rental shop, is nearby. Beach Road to Oak Bluffs is a scenic pedal past Sengekontacket Pond.
The garden courtyard with a fire pit and day-beds is the place to gather in the evening. No bar on-site, but every room comes equipped with wine glasses and a corkscrew. Vintage MV Wines & Spirits is a short walk away.
Lighthouse Beach is a 13-minute walk, and the Edgartown Lighthouse is especially spectacular at sunset. The harbor is equally close for waterfront strolling.
