The only hostel-style lodging in downtown Portland, set inside a landmark cast-iron building with a 145-year history. The tiered accommodation model — bunk to suite — is rare and thoughtfully executed. The Society Hotel lives inside the 1881 Mariners Building in Portland's Old Town Chinatown — one of only twenty cast-iron-front buildings in the city. It was originally built by the Seaman's Friends Society to give sailors a safe place to stay when they came ashore, protecting them from the crimps and ship captains who tried to exploit them. Today it deliberately bridges hostel and boutique hotel, offering everything from hostel-style triple-tall bunk beds with privacy curtains to newly-renovated suites with local art and private baths. The lobby cafe, rooftop deck, and a brand-new Scandinavian-style rooftop spa are all open to the public.

Bunk Room
The cheapest beds in downtown Portland, by a significant margin. Custom-built triple-tall bunk units — more spacious than standard hostel fare. Each bunk has a heavy-duty privacy curtain, lockable storage box, charging station, and reading light. Three individual lockable bathrooms per bunk room floor. Community space with shared fridge. Quiet hours start at 10pm. Note: Portland/Vancouver metro area residents (within 50 miles) are not allowed to book the bunk room.
Twin
Premium Suite
The top tier here. Newly-renovated interiors with premium materials and furniture. Private en-suite bathroom, luxurious white bathrobes, and enough space for up to 4 people. Options include a Double Queen with shared patio that's dog-friendly. Rooftop spa access is included.
King (also available as Double Queen or ADA-accessible Queen + Twin)
Standard Room
Private room, shared bathroom — the European boarding house model. You get your own space with a sink and vanity in-room, but the bathroom is shared with other guests on the floor. Multiple individual bathrooms per floor means it's rarely a bottleneck. White bathrobes included. Good value for a private room in downtown Portland.
Queen
Suite (Art Suite)
Each room features a custom art installation from a local Portland artist. Private en-suite bathroom, king bed, city views, and white bathrobes. There's also one dog-friendly King suite available — the only pet-friendly room in the hotel. Dog fee is $50/night (max $150/stay) for dogs under 50 lbs.
