The Study at Yale
Academic-modernist boutique. Collegiate warmth meets clean contemporary lines. Bookish, unhurried, genuinely stylish without being precious. The kind of lobby you actually want to sit in.
Book a north-facing campus-view room — the views of Yale's illuminated Gothic buildings at night are genuinely special
Why It Matters
The only full-service boutique hotel physically embedded within Yale's campus, designed by KPMB Architects. Nominated multiple times for Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards. Yale's own preferred hotel at $259/night. Heirloom restaurant has an independent following among New Haven locals — it's not just a hotel café.
The Study at Yale sits right in the middle of Yale's Arts Campus on Chapel Street, flanked by the schools of art, architecture, and drama. The building itself is a seven-story pewter curtain-wall structure — originally five floors, expanded to seven with a rooftop penthouse lounge added on top — and the design plays subtly on Yale's Gothic stained-glass traditions through a random pattern of glass operating panels. Inside, the lobby is stacked with bookshelves curated by New York's Strand Bookstore, leather reading chairs, fanned-out newspapers, and a small gallery rotating student work from Yale's art school. Heirloom, the on-site restaurant, punches well above its weight for a hotel dining room and has become a genuine local destination in New Haven.
