The Surin Phuket
Thai minimalist luxury — Shaker-style cottages, cool grey granite floors, pitched whitewashed timber ceilings, earth-toned fabrics. Sophisticated without being stuffy. Feels genuinely old-school in the best way.
Request a Beach Suite or Beach Deluxe Suite if budget allows — stepping directly onto Pansea sand at sunrise is the experience.
Why It Matters
One of the oldest and most enduring luxury resorts on Phuket, continuously refined by acclaimed architect Ed Tuttle since 1982 (formerly The Pansea, then The Chedi). The only resort sharing Pansea Beach with Amanpuri, giving it a level of beach seclusion that's nearly impossible to find on Phuket. Member of Design Hotels™.
Opened in 1982 as The Pansea — one of Phuket's first luxury hotels — this 109-unit resort sits on private Pansea Beach, a sheltered cove it shares exclusively with Amanpuri next door. Designed and repeatedly refined by Paris-based American architect Ed Tuttle, the property is built down a hillside through jungle walkways and granite boulders, with a dramatic black-tiled hexagonal pool anchoring the descent to the sea. There are no elevators, which tells you something about the vibe: this place prizes nature and understated elegance over flashy convenience.
