Ask for a room facing the Charles River — even the standard kings get good water views on higher floors

Why It Matters

Two Michelin Keys and AAA Four Diamond in one of Boston's most coveted neighborhoods. Originally part of a hospital building, it won a Boston Preservation Alliance Award for how it protected the original townhouse-style structure while adding a newer section. Named for Henry Melville Whitney, who founded the West End Street Railway Company — the forerunner of today's MBTA. The hotel sits steps from the Charles/MGH Red Line stop and a minute's walk from the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River.

A brand-new luxury boutique hotel in one of Boston's oldest neighborhoods — Beacon Hill. The red-brick facade fits right in with the Victorian row houses on cobblestone streets, but step inside and it's clean, contemporary, and polished. The interiors thread a careful line: classic enough for old-Boston sensibilities, modern enough to feel genuinely fresh. Opened in 2019, it holds two Michelin Keys and an AAA Four Diamond rating, with just 65 rooms keeping the scale intimate.
