Þingholt occupies a converted 1940s industrial building on a quiet side street just off Laugavegur, Reykjavik's main shopping drag. Icelandic-born, L.A.-based architect Gulla Jónsdóttir did the interiors: largely monochrome, minimalist, with nature-inspired details that feel genuinely Icelandic rather than generic Nordic. With 52 rooms, a proper spa, and a lounge bar that locals actually use, it punches well above its modest footprint.

Complimentary spa access, Nespresso, bathrobes, and slippers all included. The sofa converts to a sleeping sofa for an additional fee.
