Insider Tip
1/7

Cosy rooms are the smallest category at 19m² and face internally — very quiet, but genuinely compact

Why It Matters

Cambridge's oldest and most prominent hotel, totally rebuilt behind its historic facade. Part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice award winner in 2023 and 2025. The on-site Parker's Tavern — led by Chef Director Tristan Welch — is a destination restaurant in its own right. The Book Butler service, Heywood Hill-curated libraries in every suite, and a regular programme of PhD talks (Ideas in Bloom) make it feel genuinely tied to the academic city around it.

Cambridge's oldest hotel, open since 1834, completely rebuilt behind its original sandstone facade at a reported cost of £80 million. Architect John Simpson and interior designer Martin Brudnizki reimagined the whole thing in 2018 — Edwardian interiors, bespoke leather-padded writing desks, tiered chandeliers, and bookshelves curated by Heywood Hill of Mayfair. It sits right on the corner of Parker's Piece, the Victorian park where the rules of football are said to have been invented, and is ten minutes on foot from Cambridge's university colleges.
