Why It Matters
One of Manchester's most storied Canal Street venues — the Velvet Bar has been a Gay Village institution since 2005, and the hotel occupies the floors above it. It's independently owned, adults-only, and draws a creative, LGBTQ+-inclusive crowd. The Signature Duplex Penthouses on the 4th floor with their own private bars and marble bathrooms are genuinely impressive for the city.
Velvet Hotel sits right on Canal Street — the spine of Manchester's Gay Village, now one of the most inclusive and energetic nightlife strips in the UK. The building is a former Victorian warehouse once used in velvet production, and that history shows up in the design: high vaulted ceilings, rich textures, dark moody walls. Rooms above the legendary Velvet Bar, so yes, it's lively — but that's exactly the point.

Signature Duplex Penthouse Suite
Located on the 4th floor, this is the top of the Velvet stack. Duplex layout with a lounge on the lower level — plush seating, high-top dining, a private bar with a full-size drinks fridge and a kitchenette. Upstairs is the bed with its own en-suite. The marble bathrooms are finished with Molton Brown 1971 Signature Collection toiletries alongside a freestanding bath and walk-in rainfall shower. Refurbished in 2021.

A dedicated events space in the building for up to 120 guests. Exposed brick walls, high-quality sound system, dedicated bar and separate entrance. Ideal for parties, corporate events and launches. Catering packages start from £35 per person. Bespoke pricing.
Pre-order in-room extras: bottles of Kylie Minogue's fizz, Veuve Clicquot, welcome display decorations and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Bespoke packages available for birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. Arrange in advance via the hotel.
Regular live DJ nights at Velvet Bar on Canal Street. Schedule varies — the hotel posts upcoming events on their Instagram (@velvetmanchester). Bar stays open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
