Villa Casanova Lucca
Aristocratic Tuscan country estate. Old-money elegance without the stuffiness — the kind of place where the staff knows your name by dinner and the chef will cook your favorite pasta if you ask. Very quiet, very green, very Italian.
Ask for a Supreme Suite if you want a terrace — worth it for sunrise over the Lucca Valley.
Why It Matters
One of the Lucca area's rare genuinely historic all-suite properties, with genuine estate credentials: a 17th-century Balbani family chapel on the grounds, truffles and olive oil produced on-site, and corner suites that start at 590 sq ft. Tablet Hotels-listed. Open seasonally late March through early November.
An 18th-century manor house on 360 acres of Tuscan woodland, perched on the hills between Lucca and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The villa was renovated in 2009 and converted into an all-suite boutique hotel — just 14 rooms, each occupying a corner of the building for maximum light and views. Think hand-made four-poster beds, Oriental rugs, pale yellow walls, and home-pressed olive oil at the table. But the real draw is the quiet: a 40-hectare pine forest with a microclimate cool enough that even summer evenings feel comfortable.
