Villa Mittermeier
Contemporary boutique in a historic shell. Warm, colorful, personality-driven interiors — think aubergine walls, canopy beds, and fresh flowers in the lobby. Anti-pretension is the house philosophy: Michelin Star dining with zero stuffiness.
Book the restaurant separately and early — it is a standalone Michelin Star destination and fills up fast, especially Thursday–Saturday.
Why It Matters
One of only 80 German hotels to hold a Michelin Key (awarded 2024, second year running), paired with a Michelin Star restaurant on-site. It's also the only hotel in the entire Mittelfranken district with this recognition. The Mittermeiers run their own organic vineyard (Tauberhase) and 125 beehives, both of which feed directly into breakfast and the restaurant kitchen.
Villa Mittermeier is a family-run boutique hotel planted right outside the Würzburger Tor — one of Rothenburg's ancient city gates — so the medieval old town is literally a 90-second walk away. Owners Ulli and Christian Mittermeier took a classic historic villa and filled it with boldly colored, individually designed rooms and a Michelin-starred casual fine dining restaurant. The vibe is warm and anti-stuffy: no silver cloches, no white gloves, just excellent food, attentive service, and rooms you'll want to move into.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The Mittermeiers organize private events, business meetings, banquets, and weddings using their 40+ years of hospitality experience. Meeting rooms and event catering are available on-site.
The hotel can recommend or arrange guided tours of Rothenburg's medieval old town. Ulli and Christian Mittermeier personally suggest local guide Lothar Schmidt, who opens otherwise-locked doors across the city.
The hotel offers a picnic rucksack packed with regional goodies — perfect for walks along the Taubertal valley trails or cycling routes. Available against a surcharge, likely bookable through the hotel directly.
Tastings of wine from the Mittermeiers' own organic Tauberhase vineyard, produced without pesticides with full control from vine to glass. The Tauberhase label is co-created with chefs Jürgen Koch and Lars Zwick. Vouchers for wine tastings can be purchased via the hotel gift voucher shop.
