Why It Matters
The only W Hotel in Japan, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando. Its extreme contrast between the stark black exterior and the chaotic, colorful interior has made it one of the most photographed hotels in Osaka. The Penthouse has Japan's first in-suite DJ booth.
Japan's first W hotel opened in 2021 right in Osaka's Shinsaibashi district — a deliberate flex on Tokyo. The exterior is a soaring black monolith designed by Tadao Ando, all severe minimalism. Step inside and the contrast is jarring in the best way: an origami-and-kirigami-inspired arrival tunnel, a lobby dressed in Kawaii Kokeshi doll motifs, and 337 rooms wrapped in neon and bold color. Six dining and drinking venues, a neon-lit indoor pool, AWAY Spa, and a 24/7 gym round out the package.

Extreme WOW Penthouse
The top-of-the-building flagship. 200 sqm on the 27th floor with 4.5-meter ceilings and five interconnected rooms including a dining room, fully stocked bar, and open kitchen. The bedroom features artwork by Dutch textile artist Sigrid Calon (whose work has shown at MoMA). The 1.9-meter chrome bathtub is shaped like a champagne bucket. Japan's first in-suite DJ booth is built in. Views sweep across Osaka in all directions.
