Whitehall
New England historic inn with a mid-century modern design overlay. Relaxed, literary, and unapologetically Maine — think rocking chairs and fire pits, not cocktail bars and rooftop pools.

Why It Matters
Edna St. Vincent Millay was discovered reading her poetry here in 1912. The 1834 mansion has hosted a U.S. president and a king. The 2015 renovation by designer Rachel Reider preserved the bones while injecting serious color and craft — Angela Adams runners, Art Collector Maine rotating gallery pieces, custom metalwork throughout. Complimentary small-plates breakfast is included.
A historic 36-room inn in midcoast Camden, Maine, built in 1834 and converted to a hotel around 1901. Fully renovated in 2015, the property balances New England inn character — wide front porches, rocking chairs, creaky hardwood floors — with a fresh design sensibility: bold textiles, custom copper lighting, nautical rope details, and art by local Maine makers. Seasonal only (May through October), so the crowds are real in summer but the quiet is real in shoulder season.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Historic performance venue in downtown Camden with live music, theater, and events throughout the season.
20 minutes south in Rockland, the Farnsworth is home to the Wyeth Center featuring three generations of the Maine artist family. One of New England's premier art museums.
The trailhead is less than a mile from the inn's front door. The summit rewards with panoramic views of lakes, wooded hillsides, Camden Harbor, and Penobscot Bay. You can also drive to the top.
The front porch and two side/front patios with fire pits are the social hub of the inn, especially in the evenings. Beer and wine available for purchase at the desk.
The Schooner Surprise operates day sails, sunset sails, and full moon sails out of Camden Harbor — lighthouses, wildlife, and summer estates from the deck. A classic midcoast experience.
About a 10-minute walk to Camden's harbor, boutique shops, bookstores, artisan galleries, restaurants, and bars. Easy sidewalk access from the inn.
