Why It Matters
Ghent's most design-forward boutique hotel. The name itself is Ghent slang — a mashup of 'yes' and 'hello' used to express surprise. It's the only hotel in Ghent's center with a rooftop bar open to the public, and the restaurant under chef Jasper Maatman has earned a loyal local following. The hotel also holds a Green Globe sustainability certification.
Yalo is a four-star design hotel that opened in 2021 on Brabantdam, just east of Ghent's historic core. The 92-room property leans hard into a rock-'n'-roll-meets-refined-luxury aesthetic: think herringbone parquet, vinyl players in rooms, velvet bar seating, and a rooftop bar with views over Ghent's medieval towers.
