How to Reach Hormuz from Mainland Iran
Most travelers reach Hormuz via Bandar Abbas: from Tehran or other major cities, fly or take a train/bus to Bandar Abbas, then take a local taxi to the ferry terminal and a passenger boat (about 30–60 minutes) to Hormuz Island. Boats are frequent in the morning and afternoon but can be reduced in bad weather, so avoid very tight connections.
Book Accommodation & Tours Through Your Guesthouse
Many services on Hormuz are informal; your guesthouse can arrange 4x4 tours, drivers, and home-cooked meals with a quick phone call. Confirm prices in advance and pay in cash, and you’ll avoid having to negotiate directly at the pier when you arrive.
Respect Local Dress and Beach Norms
Hormuz is relaxed but still conservative: loose, modest clothing is appreciated, and women generally wear a headscarf and long tunic in public, including when walking to beaches. For swimming, most locals wear clothes in the water or choose very quiet spots; being discreet helps you feel comfortable and respectful.
Stay Offline with Offline Maps and Notes
Mobile data can be patchy and many international SIMs don’t work normally in Iran. Download offline maps of Hormuz Island, save your guesthouse location, and keep written notes of key phone numbers and ferry times so you’re not reliant on connectivity.
Hydration, Sun, and Footwear
The island’s beauty is exposed—little shade, strong sun, and crunchy mineral ground. Wear closed-toe shoes or sturdy sandals for hikes, carry at least 1–2 liters of water per person on walks, and bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light scarf to protect from both sun and wind.
