Halal Food Strategy on Praslin
Fully certified halal restaurants are limited, so the safest approach is to focus on vegetarian and seafood dishes. When you order, clearly say you don’t eat pork or alcohol and ask for your food to be cooked separately from any pork items, with clean utensils; most places are small and accommodating if you explain kindly.
Getting Around the Island
Praslin is small, and you can get around by public bus, taxis, or pre-arranged transfers. Buses are cheap but can be infrequent; for early tours or late dinners, book taxis through your hotel. Try to base yourself near Cote d’Or or Baie Ste Anne so most days stay within a short ride or walk.
Cash, Cards, and Tipping
Carry a mix of cash (Seychellois rupees) and a card. Small takeaways and beach vendors often prefer cash, while hotels and restaurants accept cards. Tipping 5–10% is appreciated but not mandatory; you can round up or leave a little extra if service is good.
Sun, Heat, and Hydration
The UV index is very high, and you’ll be outdoors a lot. Wear high-SPF reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and light long sleeves during midday, and carry a refillable water bottle; many hotels can refill or sell large bottles so you don’t overpay at small kiosks.
Respecting Nature and Wildlife
Stick to marked trails in Vallée de Mai and Fond Ferdinand, don’t touch corals or stand on them while snorkeling, and never feed wildlife, including tortoises, unless guided. Use biodegradable sunscreen where possible to protect the reef.
Booking Excursions Smoothly
Use your hotel reception or a reputable local operator to book Curieuse, snorkeling tours, and La Digue ferry tickets a day or two ahead. Ask for written or WhatsApp confirmations of pickup times so you don’t have to keep track of anything complicated.
What to Pack for a Jungle-Wild Aesthetic
Bring lightweight quick-dry clothes, a pair of sturdy sandals or light hiking shoes for jungle trails, a dry bag for boat trips, and a sarong or light cloth you can use for beach lounging or as a cover-up. Neutral, earthy colors look great in photos and feel appropriate in nature.
Connectivity and Offline Navigation
If you won’t have data, download offline maps of Praslin and La Digue ahead of time, and keep key addresses and booking confirmations saved as screenshots. Tell your hotel your day’s plan so they can help with any schedule changes if needed.
