Good to Know
Cluster Your French-Side Day
For a low-stress, efficient day, keep this first day entirely on the French side between Grand Case and Orient Bay. They’re about a 10–15 minute drive apart, so you can taxi or drive once midday and avoid crisscrossing the island. Do your shopping and wandering in Grand Case during the cooler morning, head to Orient Bay for the hottest part of the afternoon to stay near the water, and then choose either Orient or back to Grand Case for your sunset and evening depending on the sky and your energy.
Timing for Light and Live Music
In winter and spring, plan golden-hour shooting around 5:00–6:30 PM; aim to be set up with your camera at least 30 minutes before sunset. Many beachfront bars and restaurants in Grand Case and Orient Bay start live music or a DJ around early evening on busier nights—ask at lunch where the music will be later. If you want people in your shots but not heavy crowds, shoot just after bands start, then put the camera away later and just enjoy the show.
Your Weekend Itinerary

Lolo’s in Grand Case (e.g., Sky’s the Limit)

Grand Case Waterfront & Boutique Stroll
Start around 10:00–10:30 AM: walk the main Boulevard de Grand Case and the beach lane, popping into small boutiques, art galleries, and beach-access alleys. For photography, look for pastel house fronts, weathered shutters, and reflections in puddles or windows; shoot along the beach from the small public pier at the western end for wide bay panoramas.

Orient Bay Beach Day (Chair & Umbrella Setup)
Head over around 1:30–2:00 PM for a long, lazy afternoon on Orient Bay. Rent two loungers and an umbrella from one of the beach clubs (many include drinks or credit toward food). Swim, read, and people-watch; the bay’s curve is perfect for wide-angle shots, and the palm-lined beach bars give you that quintessential tropical look. For fewer crowds in photos, walk a bit away from the main access points toward the quieter sections.
3h · $15-25 per person (chairs, drinks extra)
Sunset & Blue Hour Photography in Grand Case
Return to Grand Case after dinner (or plan this on a future evening of your trip if you prefer sunset there on Day 1). Aim to be in place 30–45 minutes before sunset. Best angles: along the small public jetty for silhouettes of moored boats against the sun, or from the rocks at the eastern end looking back at the lit-up village. During blue hour, capture reflections of restaurant lights on the water. If skies are overcast, switch focus to long-exposure shots of waves, boats, and the glowing restaurant facades.
