How to Get from SFO to Sausalito Smoothly
For the least stress with kids, consider a rideshare or taxi directly from the airport to Sausalito (usually 45–60 minutes depending on traffic). You will cross the Golden Gate Bridge, which is a fun welcome. Public transit is possible but requires a BART or Muni ride and bus connections, which can be tiring after a long CAI flight.
Moving Around Locally Without Stress
Once in Sausalito, you can walk most places in the downtown and waterfront areas. For Muir Woods and the Marin Headlands, rent a car for two days or use rideshares—this avoids dealing with parking at busy times and lets you adjust plans if kids are tired or the fog rolls in.
Making Halal-Friendly Choices
Sausalito doesn’t have fully halal-certified restaurants, so treat most meals as vegetarian or seafood only. Before ordering, ask clearly if any dish contains pork or alcohol (including wine in sauces) and request it to be left out. Supermarkets let you control ingredients, so building some picnic-style meals from packaged foods can be the simplest halal option.
Layering for Microclimates
Bring a light base layer, a warm sweater or fleece, and a windproof or waterproof outer shell for each person. Conditions can swing from cool fog to warm sun within an hour—especially when moving from downtown Sausalito to the windy Headlands or shaded redwoods of Muir Woods.
Advance Reservations for Muir Woods
If you drive to Muir Woods, you must reserve a parking slot online for a specific time; if you take the official shuttle, you need a shuttle reservation. Book as early as you can once dates are fixed, and choose a morning slot (around 9–10 AM) to avoid crowds and enjoy quieter trails.
