Mansion
Old-money Recoleta elegance with a relaxed, residential feel. Posh but not stuffy. More like staying in a beautifully appointed private home than a hotel.
The complimentary lounge charcuterie station runs all day — cheeses, cured meats, sandwiches, pastries, soft drinks, coffee. It's basically a free minibar you can actually eat.
Why It Matters
One of the smallest — and most exclusive — hotels in Buenos Aires, with just 10 individually designed suites. Every guest gets a personal butler. The hotel owns its own winery (Algodon Wine Estates in Mendoza), so the wine list is genuinely singular. The rooftop Davidoff Lounge is one of the only open-air cigar bars in the city. And Le Spa is the first and only spa in Latin America to use Stendhal Paris products.
Algodon Mansion is a 10-suite luxury property inside a meticulously restored 1912 French Classical mansion on a quiet Recoleta street. The building has history — it served as the Netherlands embassy for decades before sitting empty for nearly 40 years until founder Scott Mathis oversaw a four-year renovation, opening it in 2010. Think posh apartment living rather than grand hotel formality: no front desk, 24-hour butlers, polished Lapacho floors, Calacatta marble bathrooms, and your own wine from the hotel's Mendoza winery waiting in the room.
