Three suites carved from a third-floor apartment on Piazza Stesicoro, directly above a 2nd-century Roman amphitheater that locals call the 'black Colosseum.' Owner Leandra Romeo designed every inch herself — charcoal walls, oversized Egyptian linen canopies, hand-painted Roman soldier silhouettes on wardrobe doors, Sicilian pietra pece vanities, and a freestanding center-stage shower that gets its own conversation. The building entrance is nondescript, the lobby a touch cramped. But none of that matters once you're in a suite or up on the rooftop: zinc canopy chairs, views of the amphitheater, Mount Etna, and the cathedral dome. No restaurant, no spa, no pool. Just three knockout suites and a Sicilian breakfast that guests consistently rave about.

Anfiteatro
The standout suite. Textured charcoal walls set the tone immediately, and the four-poster bed — wrapped in an oversized Egyptian linen canopy — sits center stage flanked by modern floor lamps. Wardrobe doors are adorned with large hand-painted wooden silhouettes of Roman soldiers: sounds theatrical, genuinely works. The bathroom is near museum-quality in its sparseness: a candle-lit caryatid of Athena in the corner, a vanity sculpted from Sicilian pietra pece, and a freestanding circular shower positioned center-room on a decorative stone plate. Private balcony directly overlooks the Roman amphitheater, San Biagio church, and Mount Etna.

Dionisio
The smallest of the three suites but no less considered. The suite opens with a plaster sculpture of the god of wine — Dionysus — that sets the emotional register of the space. Soft rose and blue tones, 18th-century hand-painted ceilings echoing those in Incanto, and versatile contemporary furnishings make this the warmest and most intimate of the rooms. No balcony, but the ceiling and the artisan details more than compensate. Walk-in shower in the private bathroom.

Incanto
The most romantic of the three. Pale blue tones and an original 18th-century hand-painted ceiling — its delicate frescoes echoing the Bird Gallery of Palazzo Biscari — give the suite an airy, floating quality. Two private balconies face the amphitheater. The centerpiece is a deep-soaking freestanding bathtub placed in the room itself. A decorative marble neoclassical fireplace adds further drama. Custom metal furnishings and natural motifs complete a suite that feels effortlessly layered.
