Why It Matters
Ljubljana's first modern hotel and its most historically significant. Houses the city's largest conference center (3,000m²) and the Kavarna Union café, a cultural institution open since the hotel's founding. The building itself is a listed architectural landmark.
Built between 1903 and 1905, Grand Hotel Union is Ljubljana's original grande dame — a 100-meter-long Art Nouveau landmark on Miklošičeva that has never really stopped being the center of city life. The Vienna Secession facade, with its plant motifs and domed corner turret, is genuinely striking. Inside: high ceilings, chestnut floorboards, original etched glass panes, and 111 rooms that land somewhere between historic elegance and solidly comfortable four-star. Past guests include Queen Elizabeth II, Bill Clinton, and the Dalai Lama — which tells you something about its civic weight.

At 81m², it sits at the building's prime corner position, looking directly onto Prešeren Square, the Triple Bridge, and Ljubljana Castle. The flagship and the most dramatic room in Ljubljana. The hotel uses it for private brunches and press receptions — and it works perfectly for that. If you're splurging, this is the one.
