Why It Matters
The Karavias family story goes back to a grandfather who left Ithaca and became mayor of Fira — the hotel's Homeric theme is genuinely earned, not just marketing. Cave Suites occupy a former sea captain's mansion with loft layouts and cave-style bathrooms. The top-tier Grand Suite adds an indoor jacuzzi and outdoor plunge pool. Chef Dimitris Skarmoutsos, who trained as far as California before returning to Greece, runs the kitchen.
A small, family-owned cliff-side hotel at the lower edge of Firostefani, with every room staring directly into Santorini's volcanic caldera. The architecture leans hard into the island vernacular — whitewashed walls, arched ceilings, hand-sculpted cave bathrooms — but the execution is more considered than most. The only room type that sleeps 4. Set in a former sea captain's mansion, these 50 sqm loft-style suites have hand-carved arched ceilings that are about as local as Santorini gets. Ground floor has the bedroom (queen bed), sitting area, and cave-style bathroom with rainfall shower. The loft upstairs adds a second sitting area with single sofa beds. Private terrace with caldera views and double-size sunbeds. A nautical-themed hideout with real character.

The entry-level option, and still a proper caldera room. At 20-25 sqm it's compact but refined, with a private terrace that looks straight out over the volcano. Direct access to the main pool.
