Why It Matters
Officially a Rijksmonument (Dutch national monument), Hotel New York is one of Rotterdam's most storied buildings. The two green copper towers converted into two-storey hotel rooms are genuinely unlike anything else. And the NY Basement's 11-metre cocktail bar in the basement is a serious draw even for non-guests.
Hotel New York sits in the former headquarters of the Holland America Line, the red-brick Jugendstil building on the Kop van Zuid from which thousands of emigrants once sailed off to start new lives in America. Today it's a 72-room boutique hotel and a designated national monument, right on the River Maas with the Erasmus Bridge visible in the distance. Every room is a little different — shapes, sizes, colours and quirks all trace back to the building's original function as an office block and embarkation hall.

Boardroom Suite
Former executive offices of the Holland America Line directors, now three distinct suites available in beige, warm purple, or turquoise colour schemes. Located at the front of the building with prime Maas and Euromast views. All feature original wooden panelling, Art Deco lamps, a fireplace (usable in appropriate weather), and a bathtub positioned by the window. A bottle of Cava is waiting on arrival.
Maaszijde Deluxe Room
The hotel's best standard rooms, positioned for maximum Maas River views. Among the most attractive rooms in the building — these combine the original character of the space with a straight-on river panorama.
Maaszijde Room
Rooms facing the River Maas with views of the Euromast and cruise ships. You can watch the full sweep of Rotterdam's river from these rooms. Also good sightlines toward arriving cruise liners.
Patio Room
Tall, quiet rooms on the interior of the building with no view of the surroundings. These are the baseline entry-level rooms and the price anchor for all packages. Good light, but face inward toward the courtyard. If you just need a comfortable base and plan to be out most of the time, these work fine.
Rijnhaven Room
Waterside rooms overlooking the Rijnhaven harbour basin, with views of the water taxi dock and ships moving in and out of the harbour. A real step up from the interior rooms — you get actual port activity to watch.
Roof Terrace Suite
A suite on the roof of the building with its own private rooftop terrace. Very spacious and extremely quiet. The only room with genuinely private outdoor space. Good option if you want a self-contained retreat rather than the maximally historic rooms lower in the building.
Tower Room Harbour Side
One of only two rooms in the building's iconic green copper towers. Two floors connected by a cast-iron spiral staircase in the centre of the room. Queensize bed downstairs; the staircase leads to an upper vantage platform with views over the Rijnhaven and part of the Maas. Shower only, no bath. Important caveat: the elevator only reaches the second floor — from there you climb stairs to reach the tower. Not accessible for guests with mobility issues.
QueenTower Room River Side
The second of the two green copper tower rooms, facing the River Maas (Riverside). Same unusual two-floor format with spiral staircase. River-facing orientation gives panoramic water views. Same access caveat as the Harbour Side tower: stairs required above floor 2.
Wilhelminapier Room
Tall, quiet rooms at the back of the building looking out over the Wilhelmina pier development and its contemporary architecture. More interesting than the patio rooms, with actual city views.
Wilhelminapier Twin Room
Same position as the Wilhelminapier Rooms but configured with twin (double) beds. Located at the back of the building with views over the Wilhelmina pier. Good option for two people travelling together who want separate beds.
Twin / DoubleWOW Suite
The hotel's largest and most extravagant room. Wooden panelling throughout, an authentic fireplace, Delft Blue decorative tiles, and a kingsize bed separated from the main area by a partial dividing wall. A large conference table seats up to six. The Maas views are excellent, and a high chair and telescope sit at the window. Bathroom has both bath and tub. Mini bar included.

A traditional men-only barbershop in the basement of the hotel, operated as a family business since 1884. Haircuts and extensive shaving treatments. Independent of the hotel but located on-site.
Rotterdam's first private cinema, a collaboration with The(Any)Thing, fitted out in nautical Hotel New York style. Book any film you want via The(Any)Thing app, then control temperature, sound and light yourself during the screening. Full food and drinks service in the room. From €59 per session. Capacity: 1–2 people. Open to hotel guests and the public.
The water taxi dock sits directly at the hotel. Around 50 docks across Rotterdam and surrounding areas. Taking the watertaxi into the city centre is far more fun than the metro and gives you the full river perspective of Rotterdam's skyline. Included in some hotel packages.
