Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel
Spanish Colonial meets Andean cloud forest eco-lodge. Terracotta-tiled roofs, eucalyptus beams, alpaca blankets, crackling fireplaces, local craft furnishings. Feels like a village more than a hotel. Very relaxed, nature-immersive, zero pretension.
Book the complimentary birdwatching walk for the first morning — it goes early (before 7am) when bird activity peaks in the cloud forest
Why It Matters
Holds 1 Michelin Key (2024, Peru's inaugural year), ranked #7 Best Hotels in South America by Condé Nast Traveller Readers' Choice 2025. Holds the world record for largest collection of native orchid species on a single property. It's also the best-positioned luxury base for a Machu Picchu visit, with complimentary guided excursions included in the rate and luggage transfer to/from the train station.
83 whitewashed adobe casitas spread across a private 12-acre cloud forest reserve at 2,020 meters elevation, just across from the Machu Picchu Pueblo train station. The property is basically its own micro-ecosystem: 372 native orchid species (a world record per the American Orchid Society), 315 registered bird species including golden-headed quetzals and Andean cock-of-the-rock, stone pathways, waterfalls, a tea plantation, and a spring-water pond. Eco-credentials are real, not marketing: Inkaterra is fully carbon-neutral and was the world's first climate-positive hotel brand.
