Why It Matters
One of the few serious luxury options on Santorini's south coast, deliberately turning its back on the caldera-view competition. The design by Interior Design Laboratorium is the most distinctive on the island — genuinely stylish rather than just white and blue. Direct black-sand beach access, a private beach club, and a full-service spa round out the package.
Istoria is a 21-suite and villa retreat split across two wildly different Santorini settings: 12 suites at Istoria Beach sit directly on Perivolos's black volcanic sand on the south coast, while 9 suites and a villa at Istoria Cliff are carved into the caldera rock at Firostefani. The Beach property — the original — was converted from a private equestrian estate by Athens-based Interior Design Laboratorium, and the design shows: lava stone, terracotta, leather, and arched doorways rather than the island's usual blinding white. Guests at the Cliff get a shuttle to access the beach pool, restaurant, and spa.
