A 43-room boutique hotel in Melbourne's CBD east end, Laneways by Ovolo wears its personality loudly. The design is full-on 80s Memphis Group: scattered shapes, bold colour pops, graphic black-and-white patterns. Interior designers Luchetti Krelle did the rooms; a pinball machine lives in the penthouse. Location is genuinely excellent — Chinatown two minutes away, Princess Theatre around the corner, and Parliament Station a five-minute walk.
