A century-old stately home converted into a seven-suite boutique hotel, sitting quietly on Kynsey Road in Colombo's upscale Cinnamon Gardens district. The house belonged to five generations of the Hallock family — originally from Manipay, Jaffna — and the hotel's name pays tribute to that northern hometown. Every suite is named after a woman from the family tree, from Poornam to Annapurani, the 19th-century matriarch whose ground-floor master suite is anchored by a grand ebony four-poster bed. Colonial architecture, Jaffna antiques, roll-top bathtubs, parquet floors, and a leafy central courtyard with a petite lap pool make this one of the most distinctive stays in the country.

Annapurani — Master Suite
The flagship room, named after Annapuranie, the 19th-century matriarch who raised nine children and planted a thousand acres of coconut estate. At 77sqm it is the largest room in the house. A grand ebony canopy four-poster dominates the bedroom; a separate living room doubles as a second double bedroom for families. There is a private screened garden courtyard for morning coffee in the sun, a full dressing room, and a richly decorated bathroom with a roll-top bathtub and walk-in shower. Dark sable tones throughout. Occupancy up to 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children.

Deluxe Suites — Soundhari, Poornam
Two ground-floor suites, both opening onto the central courtyard — which means the lap pool is literally a few steps from your door. Decorated in blues evoking sky and sea, these rooms are the most compact of the three tiers but notably feature unique inner courtyards designed with antique Jaffna architectural elements. Four-poster beds and semi-outdoor shower bathrooms give them a character all their own.

Four suites spread across the ground and upper floors of the garden wing. Ground-floor rooms open directly onto the garden terrace and central courtyard; upper rooms have furnished balconies overlooking the courtyard. Each has a roll-top bathtub, walk-in shower, and seats fitted into window alcoves that look out over the main lawn. Think freshly brewed Ceylon tea by the balcony in the morning light. Good for two adults.
