If arriving by ferry (the Mona Roma), tell the crew you're a pavilion guest — they'll stop at the dedicated accommodation pier and meet you with a golf buggy

Why It Matters

The only place in Australia where you can sleep surrounded by original Brett Whiteley or Sidney Nolan paintings, walk through a subterranean museum carved into the cliffside, and drink estate-grown Moorilla wine — all without leaving the property. Designed by Fender Katsalidis (the same firm behind the museum itself), the pavilions are architectural statements in their own right.

Eight architect-designed pavilions sitting on a 3.5-hectare peninsula where the Derwent River curves north of Hobart. Each one is named after a significant Australian artist or architect and comes loaded with original works from owner David Walsh's AU$110m private collection. Think glass-and-steel cubes cantilevered over the riverbank, a diamond-shaped three-storey tower clad in silver metal, and interiors dressed by Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola, and Ron Arad alongside bespoke Tasmanian furniture. You're essentially sleeping inside one of the world's most audacious private museums.
