Palazzo Bifora
Colonial-Mediterranean. Think warm sage, gold, and ivory palettes, damask wallpapers, travertine bathrooms, and original architectural bones left deliberately visible. Family-run by owner Omar and his team — the service is personal and unhurried, not corporate. Romantic and adults-only (12+).
Ask for the Aragona suite if budget allows — it's a duplex with a mezzanine study, Bifora window views, and a TV above the enormous bathtub
Why It Matters
One of only a handful of places to actually sleep inside Mdina's walls. The 14th-century palazzo was once owned by a Knight of Malta and has been restored with genuine care — underfloor heating, pillow menus, soundproofed suites, Nuxe toiletries — without hollowing out its character. The rooftop Lumière Restaurant is a local dining destination in its own right.
Palazzo Bifora is a six-suite boutique hotel inside the ancient stone walls of Mdina — Malta's car-free medieval capital known as the Silent City. The building is a meticulously restored 14th-century palazzo, once owned by a Knight of Malta. Limestone arches, herringbone floors, moody tones, and colonial-inspired decor set the mood; climb to the rooftop and a heated pool looks out over the Mdina skyline and surrounding countryside all the way to the sea.

Step straight out of the palazzo into one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world. The car-free honey-limestone streets, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Mdina Dungeons, and the city's bastion views are all walkable within minutes.
Heated outdoor rooftop pool with sun loungers, pool umbrellas, and views over the Mdina skyline and the surrounding countryside. Open 10am–5pm. Cocktails available poolside from the Lumière bar.
The courtyard and rooftop can be booked for small weddings (10–50 guests), baptisms, birthday gatherings, and corporate dinners.
