Why It Matters
The location across from Santa Croce is the thing. You get that view from the rooftop bar, from the Atenze restaurant terrace, from the top-tier rooms. The full four-year renovation completed in 2024 is the real talking point — it introduced the Idume Spa, updated all rooms, and launched the Sira Rooftop Bar. It's also the only five-star hotel in the entire Salento region.
An 18th-century Leccese Baroque palazzo that spent four years being overhauled before reopening in 2024 — and the result is quietly spectacular. The original bones are all still there: coffered ceilings, carved Lecce stone, marble floors. What the renovation added is Art Deco woodwork, contemporary Italian furnishings, a proper spa, and a rooftop bar positioned directly opposite the façade of the Basilica of Santa Croce. It's been Puglia's first and only five-star hotel since 1997, and it remains the sole luxury property in Salento. The palazzo was originally commissioned by the Petrarolo D'Anna family — Neapolitan nobility — before becoming an orphanage, then the city's first inn, and eventually what you see today.
