Pousada Literária de Paraty
Literary cultural boutique — warm, quietly sophisticated, colonial architecture with contemporary Brazilian design accents. Books everywhere. Feels more like a curated private compound than a hotel.
Book FLIP dates (usually late July) very early — rooms sell out a year in advance
Why It Matters
Official pousada of FLIP, Brazil's biggest literary festival. Certified by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). Part of the OCanto hospitality group, with its own Atlantic Forest farm (Fazenda Bananal) and an adjacent bookshop (Livraria das Marés). Listed in both Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Paraty itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2019) and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy (2017).
Pousada Literária sits at the center of Paraty's cobblestoned historic district — a cluster of fully restored 17th-century colonial mansions wrapped around a lush central garden. Since 2012 it has been the official inn of FLIP (Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty), Brazil's most celebrated literary festival. Twenty-eight suites and villas are spread across the complex, furnished with pieces by Brazilian design icons, L'Occitane bath products, Trousseau linens, and a mini library in every room. The restaurant Quintal das Letras serves sharply sourced caiçara cuisine; the Spa Poesia handles the rest.

A private gastronomic journey aboard a charming schooner. Food and drink served on the water.
