Shougang Park, Beijing
Industrial heritage meets contemporary luxury. Raw concrete, steel structures, and lofty ceilings offset by warm interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows. Distinctly architectural — not your standard five-star.
Request a room with Qunming Lake or Shijingshan views — not all rooms overlook the water.
Why It Matters
Designed by Lissoni & Partners and converted from the historic Shougang Power Plant, this is one of the most architecturally distinctive luxury hotels in China. It earned a 2025 Michelin Key and served as an official 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics hotel. The Big Air Shougang ski jump — one of the most dramatic venues from the Games — is right next door.
Built inside Beijing's former Shougang steelworks — a 100-year-old industrial complex on the city's western edge — this hotel opened in 2021 as one of the official properties for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Milan-based Lissoni & Partners designed the conversion of the old power plant, and it shows: soaring ceilings, exposed steel, and glass facades give the 283-room hotel a genuinely singular feel that most luxury hotels in China simply don't have. It's about 40 minutes from Tiananmen Square, which some guests find inconvenient, but the park surroundings, lakeside setting, and direct metro access (Line 6, Jin'anqiao Station) make it work well as a base.

The Big Air Shougang ski jump — one of the most photographed venues from the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics — is immediately adjacent to the hotel. During winter events it's an active competition and training venue. Year-round it's a striking piece of Olympic infrastructure set against industrial backdrop.
Shangri-La's dedicated children's program, branded 'buds by Shangri-La.' The kids' club is fully equipped and includes a climbing wall — unusually comprehensive for a city hotel. Climbing, play activities, and supervised programs. Weekend availability fills up; advance booking recommended.
The hotel has multiple meeting and event spaces including a ballroom and breakout rooms, and has won awards as 'Best Meeting & Conventions Hotel in Beijing.' Full AV, catering, and event planning support available.
The hotel sits inside Shougang Park, a 8.63 km² former steelworks complex that is now one of Beijing's most visually striking urban spaces. Blast furnace structures, lakeside paths, industrial art installations, the Big Air ski jump venue, and changing exhibitions are all walkable from the hotel. The park was included in Beijing's first list of must-see attractions in 2020.
