Why It Matters
A Michelin-starred chef (Hiroki Yoshitake of Restaurant Sola, Paris) delivers dinner to your room in an okamochi wooden box. You finish cooking part of it yourself on a Snow Peak cast iron grill. The Land Cave tent is a bespoke Snow Peak design available only at this property. And the night view of Fukuoka from the Bonfire Lounge is genuinely spectacular.
Snow Peak YAKEI SUITE is a 14-room luxury glamping property on Mt. Aburayama, 30 minutes south of Fukuoka city. Opened in April 2024, it is the third Snow Peak–branded lodging in Japan, operated by JR Kyushu Regional Design under a franchise with Snow Peak and designed by architect Makoto Tanijiri of Suppose Design Office. Every room type — Villa, Cottage, or custom Land Cave tent — is built around dissolving the line between indoors and out, with Fukuoka's nightscape glittering below.

COTTAGE
Three cottages sit on what used to be open ranch pastureland — so the trees are sparse and the views across to Fukuoka are wide and unobstructed. Each is 50 sqm, designed for two. The open-air living room has no exterior walls; the bedroom's large windows face the city, so you can watch the Fukuoka lights (PayPay Dome and Fukuoka Tower among them) from bed without sitting up. Note: shower only, no bathtub.

LAND CAVE
Ten Land Cave tents make up the majority of the property. At 75 sqm each they are larger than many Tokyo apartments, sleeping up to 6. Snow Peak developed this tent model exclusively for YAKEI SUITE — a cave-like shape that keeps you feeling enclosed while the fabric walls ensure you hear every raindrop and feel every temperature shift. In winter, insulating base covers and a living-room stove go in; summer gets a portable spot air-conditioner in the bedroom. Bathroom and showers are in a shared sanitary building nearby — no private sauna for Land Cave guests.

There is only one Villa, and it is the flagship. At 150 sqm across two bedrooms, the defining feature is the outdoor living space Tanijiri designed with a cavernous depth that creates a wind-tunnel cross-breeze. Heavy shadows shift throughout the day as the overhanging structure plays with light. In summer the cold plunge does serious work; in winter a wood-burning stove takes over. No conventional windows in the living area — just open space where walls might otherwise be.

The broader ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA site adjoining YAKEI SUITE offers Forest Adventure ziplines and net courses, horseback riding, hiking trails, bike rentals (standard and electric), farm-themed activities, and the Aburayama Ranch pastureland. Guests get free parking service and a 20% discount at Forest Adventure by showing their YAKEI SUITE reservation confirmation.
The property's signature evening ritual. Real wood bonfire at the highest point of the grounds, panoramic Fukuoka nightscape, curated Kyushu drinks. No charge beyond drinks consumed. Open to all guests 19:30–22:30.
Grind beans yourself and brew using Snow Peak's titanium French press (Chita Cafe Press). The beans come from Sasaguri Coffee Roastery and run to Cup of Excellence and top competition-grade lots — specialty quality you won't find at most cafes. Held daily at the Bonfire Lounge.
Use a Snow Peak compact smoker to prepare coarse-ground steak, nuts, and cheese from Karatsu Smokehouse. Paired with a comparative tasting of 'Asakura' — a barrel-aged barley shochu liqueur from Shinozaki distillery that reads more like whisky than conventional shochu. Held daily at the Bonfire Lounge.
Self-louhi (löyly) private sauna in Villa and Cottage rooms, with cold plunge pool adjacent. City views while you sweat. Villa guests also have a wood-burning stove for the outdoor living area.

26 dedicated guest spaces, free of charge. First-come, first-served. No reservation needed. Villa and Cottage guests get a private parking space adjacent to their room after check-in. Gate closes at 21:00 and opens at 07:00.
Staff will shuttle guests to nearby ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA facilities (sola aburayama restaurant, Cheese Stand, etc.) on request.
