Stanhope Hotel Brussels
English country house meets Brussels boutique. Marble lobby floors, antique busts of Napoleonic-era dignitaries, a fireplace in the Library Bar, and a billiard table — all recently updated and none of it stuffy. Business-ready without being anonymous.
The Royal Suite in the House of Ambassadors wing is frequently booked by working diplomats — it's worth the splurge if available, and comes with a complimentary bottle of wine
Why It Matters
One of the very few genuine boutique options inside Brussels' European Quarter, built from historic structures rather than purpose-built. Diplomats and eurocrats book it specifically because it's discreet and small — the Royal Suite in the House of Ambassadors wing is often occupied by actual ambassadors. The Brighton Restaurant operates as a standalone dining destination open to non-guests.
The Stanhope is Brussels' answer to the city's sea of soulless conference hotels. Stitched together from a former convent and several surrounding townhouses, it runs just 125 rooms — small by EU Quarter standards — and wears its English country house interiors with real confidence. Fully renovated in 2019, the rooms now balance classic bones with cleaner, more contemporary finishes. The 100-year-old magnolia tree in the courtyard is a genuine selling point, and the Brighton Restaurant has its own reputation entirely separate from the hotel.
