Tenuta di Murlo
Quiet-luxury Italian estate. Rustic in bones — original stone walls, vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors — but finished with sophisticated interiors, infinity pools, and thoughtful art. No resort lobby, no spa building, no crowds. The vibe is 'aristocratic farmhouse' rather than 'five-star hotel.' The family is genuinely present and guests regularly meet Carlotta.

Why It Matters
One of the most exclusive private country estates in Italy, still run by the founding family. Each villa has its own architecture and character — one is a 13th-century castle, another a medieval water mill with an underground spa grotto. The Tablet Hotels listing and Michelin recognition confirm its standing as a top-tier slow-travel destination in central Italy. Il Caldaro restaurant is a genuine farm-to-table operation sourcing from the estate's own land.
Tenuta di Murlo is a vast private estate in the hills of northern Umbria, stewarded for generations by the Carabba Tettamanti Radziwill family. What was once primarily an agricultural concern has been methodically restored — by owners Alessio and Carlotta — into nine private villas and three deluxe rooms, each reclaimed from medieval farmhouses, a water mill, a watchtower, and a 13th-century castle. The estate covers thousands of hectares of woodland, olive groves, lakes, and streams about 20 km north of Perugia. It's a serious commitment to slow living: the villas sit deep in the hills on winding private roads, you need a car to get anywhere, and that's entirely the point.
