Book an Opera Deluxe Room for direct views of the National Opera House — the window sills are wide enough to perch on with an Illy coffee and watch the pre-show crowd gather

Why It Matters

The city's original grand hotel, still its most prestigious address after 145+ years. Stage22 is the only rooftop bar locals actually dress up for. The spa is surprisingly enormous and largely uncrowded. First cocktail bar in Latvia opened here in 1967.

Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga opened in 1878 as the city's first hotel with electric lights and a telephone. That legacy has aged well. The Neo-classical building sits directly opposite the Latvian National Opera House on Aspazijas bulvāris, with the entrance to Riga's UNESCO-listed Old Town just steps away. Inside, 100 rooms and 41 suites are designed by Alex Kravetz in a contemporary-classic style with preserved bas reliefs, a grand staircase, and lobby chandeliers — all UNESCO-protected. The rooftop Stage22 is featured in the 2026 Michelin Guide. The subterranean spa is genuinely one of the best in the Baltics.
