Why It Matters
One of Japan's few beach resorts with genuine design ambition — the Barragán concept is not just a lobby gimmick but runs through the entire property. The all-ocean-view room policy, free complimentary minibar, and three distinct restaurants including a teppanyaki house and traditional Japanese dining make it a rare full-package resort outside of Okinawa. It also operates its own farm for pesticide-free vegetables served in every restaurant.
The Luigans sits inside Fukuoka's Uminonakamichi National Seaside Park — a beach resort just 20 minutes from Hakata Station that actually feels a world away. The design hook is Luis Barragán, the Mexican modernist architect, whose bold color blocks and geometric forms run through every room and public space. All 98 rooms face Hakata Bay, and the sunrise over the water from a higher floor is something people genuinely get up early for.

Barragan Kiddy Room
A concept room designed around Luis Barragán's aesthetic principles, but configured for families with young children. Instead of a raised bed frame, there's a low floor-level mattress — intentionally designed for barefoot life, so kids can't fall off. The no-shoes feel makes it noticeably more relaxed. Ocean view included.
Cabin Room
New category that opened in April 2025. The 'cabin' concept references cruise ship cabins, and the rooms are positioned to give that sensation of being at sea. Ocean-view rooms that lean into the nautical-resort feel.
Grand Floor Twin / Deluxe Twin / Balcony Twin
The Grand Floor rooms sit on the lower floors and each carries a distinct color concept — think bold Barragán-style blocks of terracotta, cobalt, or mustard. More casual than the LUIGANS Floor but all still ocean-facing. Balcony Twin option available. A dog-friendly room is also offered on this floor for guests traveling with pets.

An ongoing rotating art program featuring original works by contemporary Japanese artists displayed throughout the property. Guests can request the special ARTIST ROOM within the Grand Twin category (subject to availability).
Annual summer outdoor cinema event running since 2009. A large screen is set up on the resort's lawn; guests lie on the grass under the summer sky. Special food booths operate on cinema nights. Summer only.
