The Lyall
Sophisticated and residential — feels like a Parisian pied-à-terre crossed with a private members' club. Quiet, discreet, and deliberately intimate. The art galleries on every floor and the champagne bar set the mood.

Why It Matters
Melbourne's only privately owned five-star hotel. Listed in the Michelin Guide. Won Best Luxury Boutique Hotel, Best Small Hotel, and Best Design Hotel in Australia and Oceania at the 2025 World Luxury Hotel Awards. All furniture is bespoke and Melbourne-made.
The Lyall is a privately owned, 50-room boutique hotel on a tree-lined side street in South Yarra — Melbourne's most fashionable inner suburb. It's not a chain property and it doesn't feel like one. Completely reimagined after a recent overhaul, the hotel strikes a Parisian residential tone: dark-stained Tasmanian Oak furniture with gold accents, marble bathrooms, balconettes looking onto a Japanese maple garden, and a lobby fireplace that actually invites you to sit down. Michelin-listed and three-time winner at the 2025 World Luxury Hotel Awards, it punches well above its room count.

The concierge maintains a personal shortlist of restaurants recommended by the hotel's owners — not a generic printed list. They can also assist with event tickets and Melbourne insider tips.
Each floor of the hotel has a mini art gallery with original artworks. Previously featured works by local French artist Thierry B. Part of the hotel's DNA — worth a slow walk through each level.
On-site gymnasium equipped with Life Fitness machines.
Complimentary Lekker bicycles available for guests to explore the neighbourhood. South Yarra to the Royal Botanic Gardens and The Tan running track is the obvious route. Chapel Street and Toorak Road are also very bikeable.
