Villa Provence is a 39-room French boutique hotel tucked behind a bright facade and narrow gate on Fredens Torv in central Aarhus. The Francophile owners transformed a traditional Danish townhouse into a Provençal-inspired retreat stocked with ornate chandeliers, retro film posters, and antiques hand-picked in the south of France. Every room is individually decorated — hardwood floors, sloping walls in some, four-poster beds in others — and the cobblestone atrium (designed with floral artist Tage Andersen) is one of the best spots in the city to sit with a pastis.

Deluxe Double Room
Five deluxe doubles that function as mini suites — all located in the facade building, all with a large dining table, double bed, and generous bathroom. Regulars often claim a favourite room in this category and stick to it. More space than a standard double without the full suite price.
Double Room
The standard double rooms are smaller and cosier, often with the sloping walls and romantic details that give the hotel its character. Good value option if you're mostly using the room to sleep and want to spend your time in the lounge and courtyard.
Single Room
Three single rooms in the front building, French-inspired and fully fitted. Large single bed plus a small table and chair — honest, compact, and well-finished. The right call for a solo business traveller who wants personality over generic hotel uniformity.
Suite
Three exclusive suites with large bathrooms and freestanding clawfoot bathtubs. Decorated in full Provençal style — ornate chandeliers, candleholders, and an overall feeling of the Mediterranean. There's a sofa and table area in addition to the bedroom. Perfect for a wedding night or any occasion that calls for a bit more indulgence.
Superior Double Room
The most plentiful room type — 18 rooms in Provençal country style with a quality double bed. Five of the 18 have a small bathtub in the bathroom, so worth specifying when booking. Spacious enough that they're genuinely comfortable rather than just 'superior' in name only.

One of Northern Europe's largest art museums, a short walk from the hotel. Known for its rooftop rainbow panorama installation by Olafur Eliasson.
Directly to the left of the hotel gate is Posthussmøgen — a beautifully renovated historic alleyway lit by colour-changing lights in the evening, with history dating back to 17th-century customs smugglers. A one-minute walk that feels like stepping off the street into a different era.
A 400-metre walk from the hotel leads to Spanien bathing establishment, which has a swimming pool, sauna, and hot tub. A popular local spot.
The private cobblestone atrium with its fountain and hydrangeas — designed with floral artist Tage Andersen — is a genuine retreat in the middle of the city. Guests can take drinks from the Trust Bar out to the courtyard. Open air; weather dependent.
