The Golden Boat is Ljubljana's only freestanding building in the old city core — a structure that has stood since before 1600 and now holds 15 individually themed rooms, each named after a local legend, craft, or historical chapter. It reopened after an extensive renovation in 2020 and immediately became the city's most-talked-about hotel. The building's bones are very much intact: a 17th-century timber ceiling, 18th-century wall frescos, 19th-century parquet, and archaeological evidence of an 11th-century smithy in the basement.
