May and September hit the sweet spot — warm enough for swimming, cool enough for hiking, and free from the summer crowds that triple accommodation prices. The water temperature in May hovers around 20°C, perfect for a quick dip after exploring volcanic craters. September brings warmer seas at 24°C and restaurants that aren't rushed off their feet. July and August turn the islands into a scene from a crowded beach movie, with ferries packed and dinner reservations impossible without advance planning. But the energy is infectious, and the late sunset at 8pm gives you more daylight for adventures.
