Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence in July

Good time to visit

July is peak summer in every sense - blazing heat, maximum crowds, and sky-high prices. Beautiful if you can handle the intensity, but definitely not for everyone.

Weather

July brings serious Mediterranean heat with temperatures regularly hitting 30°C+ during the day. Mornings start warm and evenings stay balmy well past sunset. Rain is virtually nonexistent - maybe one day the entire month.

Crowds & Cost

Events & Festivals

  • Festival d'Avignon (nearby)
  • Summer music festivals
  • Bastille Day celebrations

July Tips

  • Start sightseeing before 9 AM to beat both heat and crowds
  • Siesta from 1-4 PM like the locals do - shops close anyway
  • Book everything months ahead or expect disappointment

All Months

May and September hit the sweet spot — warm enough for café terraces but cool enough to walk cobblestones without melting. The light turns golden in September, perfect for channeling your inner Cézanne. June brings lavender season and the Festival d'Aix opera, but also crowds and €200 hotel rooms. April can surprise you with rain, but when the sun breaks through, the whole city seems to exhale. October offers harvest season and fewer tourists, though some restaurants close for vacation. Skip July and August unless you enjoy sweating through medieval streets with half of northern Europe. Winter? The city goes quiet, museums have shorter hours, but you'll have Place des Quatre Dauphins to yourself.
