Summer means midnight sun from mid-May through July, when the sun barely sets and you'll find yourself walking around at 2 AM wondering why you're not tired. Winter transforms Akureyri into northern lights central. December through February offers the best aurora viewing, with clear skies more common than in the south. Temperatures hover around -5°C, and snow covers the mountains from October through April.
