Amalfi in August
Good time to visit
August is beautiful but brutal - the most expensive and crowded month with punishing heat. Only come if you thrive in chaos and can handle serious crowds and prices.
Weather
August continues July's intensity with brutal 31-33°C days and sweltering 23-25°C nights. The heat becomes oppressive, especially in the afternoon. Zero rainfall and relentless sunshine. The sea offers blessed relief at 26°C.

All Months
May and October are perfect. Warm enough for swimming, cool enough for hiking, and the crowds thin out considerably. Hotel prices drop by 30-40% compared to peak summer. The lemon trees bloom in May, filling the air with that distinctive Amalfi scent.
June through August brings heat, humidity, and tour buses clogging every narrow street. Temperatures hit 30°C regularly, and finding a restaurant table without a reservation becomes nearly impossible. But the water is perfect for swimming, and the late sunsets are magical.
April can be unpredictable. Some years feel like spring, others like winter decided to hang around. Pack layers and check the ferry schedules – rough seas cancel boat trips frequently in early spring.
Winter has its charm if you don't mind limited restaurant hours and cool temperatures. January sees highs around 13°C, but you'll have the place mostly to yourself. Many hotels close from November through March, so book ahead.
Avoid Easter week and August 15th (Ferragosto) unless you enjoy standing room only on buses and hour-long waits for tables.
