Antigua Guatemala in March

Great time to visit

March offers the last gasp of perfect dry weather before the rains return. Crowds remain heavy and prices high, especially if Semana Santa falls this month.

Weather

March marks the tail end of dry season with slightly warmer days and the occasional afternoon cloud buildup. Humidity rises to around 65% but it's still very comfortable. The rainy season teases with distant thunder but rarely delivers.

March Tips

  • Holy Week (Semana Santa) can fall in March - check dates as the city transforms completely
  • Volcano hikes are still excellent with clear morning views
  • Start planning Semana Santa accommodation a year ahead if it falls in March

All Months

November through April gives you the sweet spot — dry skies and comfortable temperatures perfect for walking these cobblestone streets. December and January bring the coolest weather, with mornings that might require a light jacket. But this is also peak season, so book accommodations early and expect higher prices. March and April heat up but stay manageable at this elevation. The rainy season from May to October doesn't mean constant downpours — more like afternoon thunderstorms that clear by evening. But muddy volcano hikes and slippery cobblestones make this less ideal for most travelers. Holy Week in March or April transforms the city into Guatemala's biggest cultural celebration, with elaborate alfombras (carpet processions) covering the streets in colored sawdust and flowers.
